What is Room-notes?
Room-notes is a treasure hunt hidden in the rooms where people stay. Before you check out, you leave a room-note: a piece of paper with two numbers on it. The next guest who finds it logs the Find here, writes a fresh code on the same paper and leaves it in the room for whoever comes after. You move on; the note stays, and every guest adds a line to its story.
Hotels are only the start. Guest houses, B&Bs, hostels, resorts, holiday flats, a hut in the mountains: anywhere people sleep for a night or two and someone else checks in after them is a good home for a note.
Any paper will do
You don’t need anything special. A page from the notepad by the phone, a postcard from the lobby, the back of a city map: if it can hold a few digits in pen, it can be a room-note.
Creativity is welcome. Draw on it, add a stamp, write a line for the next guest, pick a postcard of the town. Some places keep a notebook in every room; one page of it can start a whole chain of Finds.
Found one?
Enter the note id and the room-note code written on it. No account needed: an email address is enough, and we send you a link to collect your points. You then get a new code. Cross out the old one, write yours below it, and put the note back where you found it or somewhere new in the room. Until the next guest finds it, you keep its flame.
Leave one yourself
Tell us where you are staying, and we give you a note id and a first code. Write both on your paper together with roomnotes.wtf.ac, so the finder knows where to go. Hide it where the next guest has a fair chance: a desk drawer, between the pages of a book, behind the room-service menu. If you like, print one of our ready-made designs instead.
Points and the flame
Every Find earns 100 points, and your first one brings 50 more. Everyone who passed the paper on before you earns a share too: 50, then 25, then 12 down the chain, so each Find thanks the people who kept it going. If someone found it but forgot to write the new number, the next guest can revive it from the last number written, for extra points.
Play kindly
Leave the room as you found it: no tape on the walls, nothing for the cleaners to deal with, nothing in places that are locked or for staff only. The note belongs to the room’s next guests. If you want to keep it as a souvenir, leave a new one with the latest numbers in its place.
